The 4-star Amsterdam American Hotel is situated right on the lively Leidseplein, it has its own boat landing and features rooms with views of the canal or the Leidseplein. Built in 1900, using original Art Nouveau architectural style, the decorative features can be found in the cafe, public areas and some of the 175 non-smoking rooms.
Hotel guests are invited to make use of our fitness and sauna facilities, free of charge.
The Café Americain is opened for breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake. Dinner can be enjoyed in a classical setting under Tiffany lamps and original wall paintings, featuring scenes from Shakespeare’s 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.
On Sunday, a lively Jazz Brunch is served from 12:30 to 15:30.
High Tea is available every Saturday and is served from 14:00 to 17:00.
The Bar Americain offers award winning cocktails or the famous ‘biertje’ with Dutch snacks.
A monthly changing seasonal 3-course menu is also offered, along with other seasonal dishes. The kitchen is opened until 22:00.
The Café Americain is opened from Monday to Friday between 06:30 and 23:30. On Saturday and Sunday is opened from 07:00 until 23:30.
The cosy Nightwatch Bar is popular with both hotel guests and ‘Amsterdammers’ alike. The Bar American is open from 17:00 until 01:00.
The hotel is ideally situated in the very heart of the city, the Leidseplein. This is the perfect location for visiting the main museums, cinemas, theatres, bars, restaurants and major shopping areas.
The Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum, PC Hoofdstraat and the Vondelpark are all just a short stroll away. The Holland Casino and Hard Rock Café are also just a stone’s throw away.

Check-in starts at 15:00. The only way to guarantee an early arrival is to reserve the room for the night before.
Check-out is at 12 noon. We kindly request you to take this time into consideration. If you would like to keep the room longer than 12 noon, there will be an automatic charge of EUR 25 (excluding 5% city tax) per hour, until 16:00. After 16:00, our daily room rate will apply.
If an advanced departure takes place (a so-called early check out), the first following night will be charged extra, with the exception of congress and event periods wherein the entire stay will be charged.
While some drugs are legalized in The Netherlands, drugs are not permitted anywhere on the Hotel’s premises. If this rule is violated, we will charge an extra EUR 150 to your account.

- Reservations of 9 or more rooms will have different cancellation policies, as this concerns a group booking. Cancellations must be made before 16:00 on the day before arrival.
- For payments by cash a deposit of EUR 90 per night is compulsory
